Media Sanctuary Local News Magazine

Media Sanctuary is a non-profit community media center serving the Capitol Region of New York. When IMA last worked there, we helped launch WOOC-LP.  The station now has a very successful nightly news magazine, produced by over 40 volunteers.  Unlike many community radio stations, no one can get an individual show on WOOC.  The way for volunteers to participate in the station is to help produce segments for the Hudson Mohawk News Magazine show, which airs 5 nights a week from  6 till 7PM, and repeats the next morning.  This approach has dramatically strengthened the drive time (when the …

Radio Santa Ana On the Air

Radio Santa Ana, a program of Centro Cultural de Mexico in Santa Ana California, launched in June. Centro is a hub of community organizing for tenants rights and other issues for the Mexican-American community.  They also operate a school of Mexican folk music. Their programming includes mostly Spanish language shows, but also other indigenous languages of Mexico. They are especially well known for Son Jarocho music, a folk music from Veracruz that has had a major revival and a lot of young new players connected to social movements.
