WUMO-LP 94.5 FM: Afram South (Montgomery, AL) Goes Live

As of May 2021, we are proud to have helped establish WUMO LP FM 94.5 in Montgomery, Alabama on the dial for those living in that county. Executive Director of Afram South, William “Bill” Foster, has worked hard to get the station up and running, providing community led content, gospel jazz, contemporary and classical inspirational music. Remembering Lorenzo Milam (1933 – 2020)

As we propel further into the future, we never forget the spirits, the energy, and the presence of everyone who’s pioneered a way of life. Each and every one of you holds this power. Lorenzo Milam held that power too. He was an integral part in radio technology and transmissions. We’d like to hold space for him and commemorate his legacy. In the 1950s, Milam encountered and later worked at KPFA run by noncommercial Pacifica Foundation in Berkley. He then founded the legendary free form KRAB-FM in Seattle in 1962. Introducing James Bailey, Board Director and Operations Manager at WHGE-LP 95.3 FM

James Bailey is a lifelong learner, student of multiple crafts, and mentor to many. Originally from Philadelphia PA, James began his career as a flight engineer in the US Air Force where he refined skills including his attention to detail, quality control and disciplined work ethic. As a musician since childhood, he has studied multiple instruments, performed solo, and as part of a band. Having been raised in a musical family, James quickly developed a keen ear for quality sound and an appreciation for all musical genres. “This week’s highlights from community radio in the Philadelphia region” can now be heard on Indy Radio Garden, a weekly half hour showcase of the most compelling content from the Swarming Community Radio All over Philly (SCARP) Network of stations throughout the region each week. Presenting, Gladys Nobriga, Facilitator/Engineering Apprentice

   Another adventurer has jumped aboard the International Media Action vessel to liberation. Our newest hire, Gladys Nobriga, will work along with the new joint project, SCRAP ( Swarming Community Radio Allover Philly) to help facilitate collaborative projects with stations and engage in an engineering apprenticeship.    Gladys Nobriga is a sound based performance artist, comedian, writer and activist experimenting with found objects, contact mics, textures, range, analog formats, present moments, and emotions.
